After a particularly crazy holiday season filled with lots of food and LOTS of booze, I decided to try to out dry January (basically no drinking all of January). For the most part it was really easy (thanks to the flu) but it becomes crazy apparent, for me at least, how often I drink. Wine is my total drink of choice but when you don't have it, especially when you are out to dinner, it becomes obvious how often you are drinking! So I am not giving up booze completely but I am glad I did this "mostly" dry January because hopefully it will make me more cognizant of how many glasses of wine I am sipping.
Read MoreI thought I would start a little recurring series here all about cocktails. I am a huge fan of a fancy cocktail but when I first started making them (and ordering them for that matter) I was totally intimidated. This little video series hopefully will demystify some of the most classic cocktails.

Give me a simple but delicious margarita made with tequila, lime juice, and simple syrup. Oh and my secret ingredient, elderberry liquor ( St. Germain). Elderberry gives the margarita a sweet fragrant -but no overpowering -floral taste which I am obsessed with. If elderberry is not your thing just replace with cointreau or skip it all together. Here is a little video I created showing you how to create the perfect margarita. Pair it with some guacamole and maybe a taco or two and you have the world's most perfect meal.

We had our first real warm summer in a long time since moving to Oakland from SF and I am loving it. The weather doesn't change too much here in the fall, but it is those long warm summer days that I am going to miss. Do you know what else happens on long warm summer days? Long delicious summer cocktails on our deck, like this Frenchie cocktail which is oh so delicious.

I had been curious about trying other types of fancy cocktails but it is just so easy to order what you know and love - which is whiskey these days. But I recently discovered this amazing "bottle" shop here in Oakland called Alchemy Bottle Shop that is everything a liquor store should be - curated, well designed and best of all friendly and helpful. I thought this is the perfect place to explore. First up gin - and I am hooked. Consider me a gin drinker if I can always have gin in the form of a
Read MoreWe are en route to Mexico for a long weekend and I cannot wait. Since we will be in Mexico and on the beach in swimsuits and all that, I have decided I need to do a cleanse while I am there. One that involved lots and lots of margaritas, preferably with a large bowl of guacamole and chips. Since I have been dreaming about this little getaways for months now, I have decided I should probably get ready for this cleanse by practicing. Practice makes perfect, right? My blood orange margaritas were the perfect way to get me ready. It is all for the sake of cleansing.
