If you have been following along long enough, you know that I love cooking with what I already have. I really don't like the idea of going to the grocery store just for one recipe and think we all can make so much more than we know with just the simple ingredients in our pantry. This idea rings true when it comes to savory cooking because you can riff and experiment so much more easily with savory ingredients.
Read MoreI started the concept of fridge foraging because I wanted to show people that you could make delicious food by just using the ingredients already in your house. I was so sick of seeing recipes that necessitated 4 trips to different grocery stores and the use of unconventional ingredients that will only get used once.
Read MoreI have gotten a couple requests for fridge foraging dessert style. I will admit fridge foraging for sweet dessert recipes is a lot harder than creating a savory recipe out of what is in your refrigerator. This past weekend though I realized I had a ton of leftover fruit, both fresh and frozen, and decided to make a fridge foraged dessert in the form of a summertime crisp.
Read MoreAs I was brainstorming Valentine's Day recipes I was trying to think of the most Valentines/romantic recipes I could think of and in addition to the perfect chocolate souffle, chocolate fondue comes in a very close second! I think it was because we grew up going to the Melting Pot for celebrations but to me a huge chocolate fondue spread just screams Valentines Days. Do you know what else I love about it? Is it super easy to throw together.
Read MoreI can't seem to get enough of citrus these days. I was always a citrus lover growing up but it intensified a millions times when I got pregnant. All I want to do is eat citrus and drink orange juice. And don't get me started on lemon desserts, I can't pass up any dessert with lemon in it, especially these Meyer Lemon Bars.
Read MoreI think there are two types of people in this world...people who love Costco and people who hate Costco. I fall into the later. The thought of going to Costco gives me serious anxiety. I don't know what it is - I love other stores like Target and Walmart. And Trader Joes and Whole Foods I can do with my eyes closed...but there is just something about Costco.
Read MoreIn true Southern California style, this past weekend it was 80s degrees...in the middle of December! Even thought I grew up in Florida and am used to warm holidays, sometimes the weather this time of year is totally confusing. Where is the white Christmas that I see all over social media???!
Read MoreGive me all the chocolate please. Well, let me rephrase that. Please give me anything that has to do with chocolate and peanut butter. I absolutely cannot resist that flavor combination. And don’t even get me started on what happens when you put them together in a molten chocolate cake – it is the most unbelievable dessert out there. You should probably go make it, right now.
Read MorePassion fruit wasn’t something I really discovered until I moved to California. Growing up in Florida, we didn’t have it for some reason. You would think that in a tropical climate like South Florida it would be growing everywhere. Maybe it was and I had no idea! (Which is a bummer because I love passion fruit.)
Read MoreDid you know that you can use a grill just like an oven? Today I am using my Traeger to spend the day outside, grill and make dessert all at the same time.
I love entertaining and entertaining outside is even better. Today I am making an apple and blackberry galette with a rosemary crust. Perfect for a sunny fall day spent outside.
Read MoreI love food brands that remind me of a time and place in my life. Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee at Home is one of those brands. Going to school in Boston, I like every other college kid in town, had an iced coffee every morning, even when it was below freezing and snowing. I even interned at the advertising agency that held the Dunkin’ account and made some horribly embarrassing advertising campaign for Dunkin’ Donuts as my final project that thankfully has been lost (hopefully).
Read MoreThis past summer we embarked on an epic European vacation. One of these days I will get around to posting some of those pictures here, but until then lets talk about this apple pie/apple cake situation that we encountered on our trip. The first leg of our trip was LA to Amsterdam. We later went onto Denmark and Sweden but for the purpose of this post, lets talk all about Amsterdam and that apple cake.
Read MoreNot much beats homemade ice cream....maybe homemade salted caramel ice cream topped with more salted caramel.
Read MoreWhen I was in cooking school I have the most vivid memory of my chef instructor telling me how when she was 8 she learned how to make choux pastry and would often make herself, as an eight year old!!, a plate of cream puffs. I love that image.
Read MoreI can’t get enough of fresh figs in the summer. They are one of the last truly seasonal ingredients and come in abundance in late summer and early fall. With their gorgeous colors and sweet centers, I love figs in this dessert because it shows off figs in all their fresh glory.
Read MoreI wanted to start a new recipe videos series where I take 1 basic recipe then show you how to create three different recipes with it. Sound good? Today we are talking about galettes. Galettes are basically pie dough that wrapped around fresh fruit or veggies. Since we are in the thick of glorious summer I wanted to show three of my favorite summertime galettes: stone fruit, berry and tomato.
Read MoreToday I wanted to share one of my favorite summertime desserts, a tart shell filled with whipped mascarpone cream and topped with fresh fruit. Simple, oh so tasty and perfect for all those warm summer nights filled with BBQs and entertaining.
