Right before baby Olivia was born I made a batch of these muffins and they have been a lifesaver for breakfast. I froze them individually and then microwave one for breakfast each morning. I love how in 30 seconds I can have breakfast so I can turn my attention to a hungry baby. They are full of flavor as well as carrots and zucchini to make them a little healthier.
Read MoreWhen I first met my husband all he ate was crepes. He lived about a crepe shop in San Francisco and every night's meal was a savory crepe. When we first started dating, I too had my fare share of crepes and I must say they are kind of underrated.
Read MoreGive me all the CARBS! Ever since I was a kid I have always been all about the carbs. Not necessarily the sugary carbs but definitely the savory and salty carbs. Pizza, yes. Dinner rolls, of course. Bagels, hell yes (even Lender's Bagels did the trick and don't even get me started on bagel bites! )
Read MoreI am a total creature of habit, especially when it comes to food. When I find a good thing, I eat it over and over again. Most recent case and point, granola. I am obsessed with granola for breakfast. Topped with fresh summer fruit and yogurt, it is perfection. But do you know what is not perfection? The cost of granola at the grocery store. It is way more money than I am willing to spend, so I developed my own recipe and I can't get enough of it.
Read MoreHave you ever thought about the first person that dared eat an oyster? Or what about that first person who tried a mushroom and prayed that it wasn’t poisonous? I am not sure why but I think a lot about these people. Probably because I spend a lot of time prepping food and thoughts like these just pop into my head. Like why do we eat arugula but eating dandelion greens (until recently) has been avoided? Or who thought that if you blanch stinging nettles, which literally sting you when you pick them, they would be the most delicious pizza topping? This burning question is especially relevant when it comes to artichokes. Have you ever seen an artichoke plant? They are scary pre-historic bushes and if the artichoke is not picked in time it turns into this crazy gorgeous purple blossom that looks like it could eat you ( a la the man-eating plant in Little Shops of Horrors). Also the plant is so tough that people literally can make furniture out if it. So who in the world was the crazy person to dig deep inside that prickly center and figure out there was deliciousness in there? How did they know if you steam the center and then douse it with butter and serve with a lemon aioli that tastiness awaits? Who? Who? I need to know!
Read MoreI love entertaining; having people over to my house to eat is one of my favorite pastimes. I think that is why I became a cook, because I love feeding people. Over the years I have figured out tips and tricks to make it easier on me and more delicious for my guests. One of the best tips is to have people over for brunch rather than dinner. Brunch is always a little more laid back and relaxed and I love serving recipes that can be done the day before. Enter the Dutch baby.
Read MoreSince I work around food all day, I tend to eat pretty healthy breakfasts. I have become a walking advertisement for that old saying of starting the day off right with a good breakfast. Sadly no more waffles or bagels for breakfast. I find that if I start the day with something quasi-healthy, I can usually go the day without binging on the baked goods that always seem to be hanging around at work. My normal breakfast is a salad (boring I know) but if I had time, I would always make myself a version huevos rancheros. So delicious and so healthy.
